Who Buna is
«I built every wall with wood the river brought me.»
— Buna, founder — Atins
No architect, no blueprint. Buna designed and raised every chalet, every piece of furniture and every garden sculpture with his own hands. It’s that same rustic, welcoming soul that greets you today.

The Ranch That Buna Built
When Atins was a fishing village of 300 inhabitants with no electricity and no roads, Buna found his paradise. He bought a plot of land in Atins and, with his own hands, began building what is now Rancho do Buna — with no architect’s blueprint, using recycled and reclaimed wood. Every piece of furniture, every detail, was made by him.

Life in the coconut grove — and the best of the region right there
What to Do in Atins
Trips around the region — Lençóis, quad-biking, a boat on the Preguiças — are run by local partners: we recommend, we don’t operate them.
Free-roaming peacocks
Peacocks, ducks and chickens wander the coconut grove freely — the yard is theirs too.
Breakfast
Seasonal fruit, tapioca and whatever the house prepared, served under the thatched roof.
The animals
The donkeys greet you at the gate — they’re part of the Rancho family.
Pool & shade
A dip among the palms and a hammock in the afternoon: that’s the village rhythm.
Where the Rio Preguiças Meets the Sea
Atins, Gateway to the Lençóis
In the village where Buna arrived when there were only fishermen and sailing rafts, the unhurried way of life still pulses through the sandy streets. Just a few kilometres away, Lençóis Maranhenses National Park reveals its sweeping dunes and crystal-clear lagoons. And around the ranch, the igarapé — a stream fed by waters from the dunes for four months each year — frames the landscape.
